I have just finished feeding and watering the indoor plants - yes, feeding them! The door to the garden shed has been frozen for awhile, and I never was in the right place with the right product, until Wednesday, so now the plants are absorbing nutrients to their hearts content! They all look really good, I brought the verbenas to this window, they were holding the moisture too long in the SW window - for only this reason and only this time will I say - the South is best for plants.
We have gray-blue skies this morning with temperatures to be in the 40's again. Could this be called an Indian Winter?? The warmer temperatures did allow us to get out Friday night in the Goddess Garden under an "almost" full moon and have a pre-Umbolic evening (2/2/02). It was beautiful, and I tried to build a fire in the chimanea - Robert finally got it going enough to make us FEEL warm by it. I had bought a hugh bag of wood scraps from Rankins this week, and it should make great small fires for the garden.
I had fun this week searching for the name of the company that makes the Todd Flats that Su.Sane used so successfully in Valley Hill. We have 7 of the smallest size cubes but want some the larger size for our starts this year. I finally found the company name in the OBITUARY of the founder of the company - what a hoot! This internet process is quite something! Anyway, tomorrow I will call the company to get a catalog or prices, their web page doesn't list "supplies" as such, and then I will post it here. It is a fantastic system and worked great this past summer, only we want larger plugs.
I have absorbed Eliot Coleman's "Four-Season Harvest" about organic gardening. What I was most interested in was his design for a moveable plastic tunnel for growing year round. He graciously gives you his plans, and you can go from there for your own situation. VIrginia got me started on this concept with that article. I am also starting the Nearings first book "Living The Good Life", which VIrginia also shared. Coleman's book is available at the library! I am returning it tomorrow.
Lola brought us great information from the Spear Dairy Farm in Noblesboro, ME on trees, shrubs and fruit bushes - YES - that is one of my desires this season! I haven't read everything yet, but will share what I find, and will have available if anyone wants to see it at Salon. It is obviously getting close to SERIOUS ordering time. I am also awaiting a catalog from FEDCO, a Maine co-op, that Tommy told us about. He orders his bulk seeds from there. We may share a order this year, so we can get less of more!
Lily got her booster shot this past week and was declared in great health! Hey! She was a little shaky, but come'on, it can be a pretty scary place and noisy too!

This is the night that we encircled the Turtle Table and became the butterflies we had cocooned ourselves for. The Work is for the inside of our Sanga, only for the outside world of those who want to see in. With this respect, we will share as it is asked for, but first it nurtures us. We encircled our commitment and it was a beautiful evening of sharing with each other. Speaking our needs aloud solidifies our nature.
I smell hot biscuits and pan fried steak - WOW - see you later!!
