Well, I thought I would have loads to write on Sunday - but was I in for a surprise, as was the whole coast of Maine by the snow and ice that began to fall in the morning. And did it fall? For about 8 hours, heavy and huge snowflakes, biggest I have ever seen, the size of the ones you made as a child, cutting them out of paper for the bulletin board at school. HUGE! As we were out, beginning the fun game of making snow people, there was a flash of light and thunder!!!! Scared us to death I'll tell ya! And Robert was right in the middle of making his first snow angel wing - needless to say - we scurried back into the house like bunnies!!
The lights flickered off and on for several hours - then - blackness, and again we scurried like bunnies to find our Maine stash of candles, lamps, lamp oil, (we had already filled the bathtub and pitchers of water), the camp stove, paper goods, turned off the computers and tvs, and then we commenced to enjoy the excitement of the evening.
Because we had made such wonderful changes in the house before New Years, we could all gather around the Turtle Table in a warm cozy room and do all the things we envisioned a "snowy Maine winter" would be like, right out of Coffin's COASTAL CALENDAR!
We ate tuna sandwiches, had plenty of hot coffee that Robert had made earlier (to prepare). We listened to Garrison Keillor and James Herriott on the walkman radio with little speakers! We were set! We were pleased with ourselves that we had made the transition of preparedness for Maine winters in just two years! Afterall, we were all raised to be prepared for tornadoes, not Nor'easter snow, ice and cold winds.
It was a wonderfully warm family night, a memory we will always have. The village crews worked endlessly all night long, and by morning the villagers could move into their day safely. Barbara F. shared the evening with us as we worked puzzles, knitted, did hand sewing, and talked and talked and talked.
We all slept warmly that night, the house stayed really warm and we awoke to all the lights on in the morning. We were blessed with such a short outages, as many of our friends were still without power until Thursday. Our cable has been out until Thursday, but now all is up and running.
So, all the things I had planned to accomplish last Sunday, never happened, so this weekend they are again on my agenda! We'll see!
I have several new web sites that I want to look into today, gardening sites of course, New England sites.
